Driver Alex Sedgwick looks for even more after last year’s double podium weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America
MILLVILLE, NJ (September 15, 2024) – PT Autosport with JDX Racing driver Alex Sedgwick has had the Porsche Carrera Cup North America doubleheader at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway circled on his calendar for quite some time.
The 25-year-old Warwickshire, UK native scored his top finishes of the season last year at Indy, capturing podiums in both races. With a win this season under his belt, and 58 points separating him from the top of the point standings, Sedgwick looks to build on earlier success at the Brickyard as he takes the wheel of the No. 98 PT Autosport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car this weekend.
Sedgwick tested at Indy last month, the first time he has been on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course on the Yokohama tires in the 992 generation GT3 Cup car.
“It was a solid test,” said Sedgwick. “It’s a really challenging track, with super heavy braking zones, some bumps, and lots of fast direction changes so the car is always pretty on edge. That makes it very important to find the best setup, and then keep on top of the tire throughout the race. The test gave us the chance to see what the Yokohama tire would do on this track surface, and it was really a matter of feeling out the track and what the differences are. It actually does require an adjustment to your driving style, and it’s a matter of finding the best compromise on set up and then driving to that. So I think it will be one of those race weekends where it’s a bit more in the driver’s hands.
“It was a good race last year across the board for JDX,” continued Sedgwick. “It was my only double podium of the season so hopefully we can at least repeat that, though the aim will be to get a couple more positions. And it’s always great to have the chance to race at the Speedway – it’s such an amazing facility, and a cool place. To see the names of drivers who have won here is a lesson in history, we’re looking forward to it.”
PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers also looks forward to the annual Indy races. For Myers, a longtime sports car team manager, the weekend offers the chance to look forward – and backward.
Sedgwick had joined Myers and PT Autosport two years ago in time for the 2022 Porsche Sports Car Together Fest at IMS. The team found success straight out of the box, with Sedgwick scoring two top 10s in the team’s 991.2, including a second-place finish from pole, which set the stage for his rookie Porsche Carrera Cup North America season. Myers hopes the weekend comes with one of the new, but honored, Indy traditions.
“We’re really looking forward to heading back to Indy,” said Myers. “Indy wasn’t a regular track on the Grand-Am GT or GS schedule much back in my heyday but it’s always such an honor to race here. The first time I came back to Indy in 2022 it was with Alex for what would become PT Autosport’s first officially entered race, with Alex running our 991.2 GT3 Cup Car here with Yokohama Sprint Challenge. He ended up finishing P2, only behind (former INDYCAR driver) “Speedy” Dan Clarke. But even having been here multiple times, I’ve never been able to kiss the bricks. I am hoping to change that this coming weekend!”
PT Autosport would like to thank partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and New Jersey Motorsports Park, as well as JDX Racing partners Byers/Porsche Columbus, and Renier Construction.
The Porsche Carrera Cup North America series will contest two races at Indianapolis. Race one takes the green flag Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET, with race two Saturday at 11:10 a.m. The races will be broadcast live in the U.S., on IMSA.tv, the NBC Peacock streaming app and PorscheCarreraCup.us.
