The GT World Challenge America rookie has earned three top five finishes in four previous Porsche races at the Austin circuit
MILLVILLE, NJ (April 21, 2025) – PT Autosport’s Alex Sedgwick hopes to build on his early success in the GT World Challenge America Presented by AWS series as he heads to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas – a track on which he has enjoyed success.
Sedgwick and co-driver Jan Heylen piloted the RS1-prepared No. 18 Race Brew by Momentum Brewery/PT Autosport/Porsche Naples Porsche 911 GT3 R to a fourth and a second-place finish four weeks ago in the series opener at Sonoma Raceway. Now, the 26-year-old Warwickshire, UK native will compete on a track he knows well, looking to build upon the lessons learned so far this season.
“The Sonoma weekend really was mission accomplished,” said Sedgwick. “I integrated well with the team and got up to speed with the car, learning some of the things I need to do to adapt to this car and get the most out of it. Overall, it was a very positive weekend, and it gives me a lot of confidence that I’m capable of delivering results at this level.”
Sedgwick had raced at Sonoma only once ahead of the SRO weekend but has four races of Porsche Carrera Cup North America experience under his belt at COTA, with three top fives including a podium finish.
“It definitely helps to have an expectation in terms of what the car’s going to do and the things we will most likely have to work on,” said Sedgwick. “I’m a good deal more familiar with COTA so that will help as I continue to adapt and figure out the GT3 R platform and the series.
“COTA carries its own unique set of challenges,” Sedgwick continued. “One is usually the heat, so hopefully the April date negates that a bit! Another is the concept of track limits, which are different at COTA because of all the runoff. The curbing can also be an issue because the track is quite “F1-ified” and you can get away with a lot, but you can also get yourself into a lot of trouble. But the main challenge this weekend will be the fact that the GT3 R is a different type of car than the Carrera Cup car – it needs to be approached and driven differently. You have more tools at your disposal, with driver aids and set up options, and it’s a lot more aero-dependent than a Cup Car, so you tackle the high-speed stuff quite differently. Definitely looking forward to the test days!”
PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers has been working in racing for several decades including years spent as a high-profile team manager, and believes Sedgwick is one of the most talented drivers he has seen.
“We are really looking forward to seeing how Alex does in the GT3 R at COTA,” said Myers. “His last two races in Carrera Cup were there and he drove some of the cleanest and best races I’ve seen in my 20-year career. COTA is a track that tends to favor the Porsches over other marques, so it will be interesting to see if the BoP (balance of performance) still favors some of the other manufacturers as heavily as it did in Sonoma. All of us at PT Autosport have been impressed by (team owner) Justin (Bellinzoni) and the entire RS1 squad, along with our 992 GT3 R – this team running this car with these two drivers have all the things they need to win a championship. Now it’s just down to Alex and Jan to deliver – which we know they can!”
The GT World Challenge America series will contest two 90-minute races at COTA. Race one takes the green flag Saturday at 2:05 p.m. ET, with race two Sunday at 3:15 p.m. ET. The races will be streamed live on YouTube, with an interactive broadcast on Twitch.
