The PT Autosport lead driver will do double duty this weekend, as a driver and a driver coach with Precision Racing LA in the Toyota GR Cup series
MILLVILLE, NJ (July 18, 2024) – Precision Racing LA w/PT Autosport will see a new face in the No. 44 Segra-sponsored Toyota GR86 Cup Car, as Alex Sedgwick will handle double duty as both driver coach and driver in this weekend’s pair of Toyota GR Cup races.
The 25-year-old Warwickshire, UK native currently lies in second place in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America standings but looks forward to making his Toyota GR Cup debut – in a very different vehicle than his regular ride.
“It’s been a few years since I drove more of a ‘momentum-based’ car,” said Sedgwick. “The GR Cup cars have less horsepower than the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, which is more of a high-speed, high-commitment car. It will be interesting to see if I can quickly tune back into that side of my brain again, so there will be some adaptability involved. I am also looking forward to competing alongside Henry, and so many of the other fast drivers in the series who have raced these cars quite a bit. This will be a good comparison, to see how Henry and I stack up against each other. Hopefully I can get a couple of good finishes and get a real inside look at Henry’s program, to help him as well.”
For PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers, the weekend offers a chance to see Sedgwick at work in a completely different car and series – and perhaps preview potential future opportunities.
“I am so excited for the opportunity to put Alex in a GR Cup car – something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, just to see how he does in Toyota machinery,” said Myers. “This deal kind of came together at the 11th hour, when both the No. 44 Toyota GR Cup car and the Segra sponsorship became available. We love PRLA: Mario (Biundi, team principal) and his crew, including Daniel (Martin, Team Director) and Ryan (Eversley, Team Pro), have built a proper team in a short time, really shining through as the most professional organization in the GR Cup paddock. We couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity to get Alex in a Toyota, especially given the success of their GTD program (Lexus/Vasser-Sullivan) and their GT4 platform – it would be great to see Alex in that type of machinery in the near future.”
The Toyota GR Cup series will contest two 45-minute races at VIR – race one will take the green flag Saturday at 1:55 p.m. ET, with race two Sunday at 12:15 p.m. Both races will be broadcast live at www.grcup.com.
PT Autosport would like to thank partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and New Jersey Motorsports Park.
